Members Meeting - December 2022
The Craft Group had been busy all year, so on arrival at the meeting, there were crafty things on the tables. Some of us, not being the crafty sort, were concerned. Joyce, who led the session explained what to do and we were amazed that we managed to complete our tiny bobble hats. Another lovely evening followed by a faith supper.
Garden Group - December 2022
December and the Garden Group were wreath making again. It such a lovely activity, not only meeting up and sharing the odd mince pie or two, but the friendship and camaraderie that comes from being part of the WI. Thanks to Pat who's garage we occupied and does make the perfect place. This activity hails the start of our festive season.
Craft Group - November 2022
The craft group have been busy again, although they are not sure if there latest creation are dwarves or wizards, but definitely cute, and hairy!
Mickleover Members Meeting - 10th November
A change in the programme, (the Annual Meeting has been moved to May 2023), which enabled members to enjoy a spot of Kurling. Anne Bellamy – New County Chair (congratulations Anne) and also Head of Sports & Leisure, along with Diane Smiles facilitated the session. It was most enjoyable, and the scoring went back and forth between the teams, however the Bonehill girls won the overall game.
Mickleover Garden Group – October 2022
The garden group visited Bluebell Arboretum, Smisby, Ashby de la Zouch, LE65 2TA, on Saturday 15th October, hoping to see the autumn changing colors of our woodlands. We certainly weren’t disappointed, the colors and the planting were truly fabulous, somewhere worthy of a visit. Entry fee £4. There are no “tea rooms” but somehow that would have spoilt the setting of this amazing place.
Next stop Calke Abbey, which is just a few miles away, for lunch and a look round the gardens. The rows of dahlias looked beautiful, however, the auricula theatre had been turned into a Halloween extravaganza of squashes of all shapes and sizes. What a great day out.

Craft Group - October 2022
The craft group have created another gorgeous work of art, a flock of Robins. It’s based on a film called Robin Robin – Robin adopted a family of mice, hence the ears of a couple of the robins! Is there no end to their talents.
Mickleover WI - 8th September Meeting
As we arrived for the meeting, the news of the Queen’s death had just been announced. It was agreed that the meeting and the flower workshop should go ahead. A two-minute silence was observed. Afterwards, Celia, one of the members lead the workshop, it was instructive, informative and enjoyable. It was deemed a fitting tribute to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Mickleover WI August Meeting
Mickleover WI enjoyed a delicious summer meal at Mickleover Golf Club. Celia & Carol had been paying attention during July's meeting, Recycling. The flower arrangements were housed in recycled tins, but looked really amazing. Just shows what can be done with a few tins, great work girls.
June - Queens Platinum Jubilee, Afternoon Tea
Craft Group - June 2022
Gorgeous little Dandy Birds made by the craft group
Garden Group visit Kedleston Old Rectory (NGS Garden Scheme) - May 2022
The weather was kind, as were the family. Their garden is delightful. Interesting trees, beautiful azaleas, many white, and pathways leading to various differing areas. There is a large pond where the waterlilies are just flowering, and of course somewhere to sample cake and a drink. We had a very relaxed afternoon, and the funds raised were for the local church organ fund.
Mickleover Members Birthday Meeting - April 2022
This evening, Baroness Bolsover educated us in the art of “Afternoon Tea Etiquette”. Armed with cups & saucers, tea spoons and napkins, we learnt how to place the napkin on one’s lap, how to lift the tea cup – the little finger should remain in place with the other digits, so no sticking it out. Stirring tea was another matter completely as was eating the dainties, and daintily being the catchword. For a lady of nearly 200 years old, we were thoroughly entertained. An excellent evening and one to be recommended.
Garden Group visit Calke Abbey - April 2022
A few members of Mickleover garden group braved the north winds on a bitterly cold day and visited Calke Abbey. This was no April fool, in the vegetable garden a cheeky Robin firstly posed for us, and then followed us around for a good while, looking for a crumb or two. Unfortunately for the poor Robin we had devoured the Cornish pasties and sausage rolls before our walk!
Mickleover Members Meeting - January 2022
Bhangrablaze with Janine M Bailey & Fay Spencer
Many ladies joined in with the Bhangrablaze - India dancing exercise session, and although there was a little trepidation, we all got along famously – well we did the best we could; learnt a few steps and had a good workout into the bargain. Janine and Fay were excellent instructors and feedback was that everyone had thoroughly enjoyed themselves, even if there were one or two aching limbs! Although this was down to “old bones” as we had all taken part in a warm up and cool down session.
