Garden Group - July 2023
A few members visited Hoe Grange Quarry, the first Butterfly Nature Reserve in Derbyshire, situated at Longcliffe, in a disused limestone quarry. We parked at Curzon Lodge (DE4 4HN) and were ferried by mini coach to the quarry. Unfortunately, this was not a good day for butterflies, moths and dragonflies, and indeed humans, it was perishing. We started off on the guided walk but retreated to the coffee cabin to warm up, and of course indulged in a slice of chocolate cake and a coffee. A moth also had the same idea and joined us! We hope to go back another year when there might be a lovely calm summers day and see the multitude of Lepidoptera. www.hoegrangequarry.co.uk

Mickleover WI – April 2023, Members Meeting
Mickleover WI celebrated its 105th birthday meeting in style with a 1920’s Casino night and Mocktails. Members arrived in feather boas, flapper headbands and a variety of 20’s fashions. The evening kicked off with a selection of mocktails; Long Island Iced Tea, Elderflower Elegance & Fruit Punch. To entertain us there was a Tombola, a couple of rounds of Beatle, the card game higher & lower, and Roulette. This was rounded off with a delicious faith supper. The committee had obviously worked very hard to provide such an enjoyable evening – Thank You
